AND, THEY'RE OFF!

My Old Kentucky Home
Words and Music by: Stephen C. Foster

The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home
'Tis summer, the people are gay;
The corn top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day;
The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy, and bright,
By'n by hard times comes a-knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!

Chorus

Weep no more, my lady,
Oh weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the old Kentucky home far away.

They hunt no more for the 'possum and the coon,
On meadow, the hill and the shore,
They sing no more by the glimmer of the moon,
On the bench by that old cabin door;
The day goes by like a shadow o'er the heart,
With sorrow where all was delight;
The time has come when the people have to part,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!

Chorus

The head must bow and the back will have to bend,
Wherever the people may go;
A few more days and the trouble all will end
In the field where sugar-canes may grow;
A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, 'twill never be light,
A few more days till we totter on the road,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!

Chorus

This is where my heart is today. They will be singing this song soon. One thing I learned a while ago,never bet on the favorite. So, here goes, this is my list and I have no inside information. I have no bets placed. Just these horses are the ones I favor.

1. Going Wild

2. Giacomo

3. High Limit

Funny, I was born and raised in horse country with the horse farms all around me, not realizing the beauty and the magic of this "sport of kings" The traditions are in place and have been for 100's of years. I can smell the country ham, cheese grits, beaten biscuits, derby pie and yes, even the mint julips. I'm off to go put my derby hat on and stand in front of the TV and sing, "My Ole Kentucky Home."  HOT DAMN, it just doesn't get any better than this.....well, it could if I had a piece of Derby Pie.

p.s. Wish me LUCK...IF I win, i'll be back!

WOULDDA COULDDA SHOULDDA...........GIACOMO.....50 to 1 odds.

And where or where did the favorites finish? haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Good luck.  I once placed a bet on a horse in Tijuana right at the "wire".  The person taking my money gave me a really weird look.  By the time I got to the fence the horses were all clustered at the finish line.  I couldn't see mine for all the dust, until he came lolling along all by himself many lengths behind the pack.  I think he was supposed to lead in the next race.  Paulette

Oh, Anne, if it wasn't so cold, I'd go back for the beauty of the State.  I do find myself missing it.  But the thought of those winters again --- brrrrr.  No, thanks!!

When I was in grad school the first time I worked at a race track. I should have gotten credits for it, it was quite an experience!

I'm just glad Steinbrenner's horse didn't win.  I HATE the Yankees.  Happy Mother's Day, gorgeous!!    Russ

Oh, I love the Derby, too. It is a holiday here, of course, we live in Kentucky...I thought it was an exciting race...touching that the horsewas bottle fed the first few days of its life...and it is a Kentucky bred...

I love horses. The Nemesis hates them. On his "Bad" days I threaten to turn him in for a horse or a good cat :P .
